Homeland Security Launches New FOIA Request Form

The Department of Homeland Security has continuously sought to improve the customer experience when submitting a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. In April 2012, the DHS Privacy Office redesigned their FOIA website, in order to improve usability.

Earlier this month, the DHS Privacy Office deployed a consolidated web-based form, which allows FOIA requesters to submit their FOIA requests to DHS and any of its components. Homeland Security has also provided detailed information explaining gow to submit a FOIA request and information on where to direct it to, as well as the ability to check the status of the request. DHS expects to soon have a feature to given offer an estimated date as to when the request will be completed.

Our Los Angeles immigration attorneys have requested important immigration files and other information from DHS for clients in the past and are glad to see the announcement of an improved service.
