No Immigration Reform Plans for GOP in June

The Republican-lead House of Representatives outlined their legislative priorities for June, which unfortunately did not include any topic on immigration. Our U.S. immigration attorneys in Los Angeles obtained a memo dated Friday, June 6, 2014, from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) outlining the House’s legislation priorities for June. The legislation includes items such as tax extensions, legislation aimed at improving job skills as well as government funding bills, but no legislation plans for immigration reform.

Advocates of comprehensive immigration reform, our immigration lawyers included, have viewed this summer as the final chance for an overhaul this year. Though some House Republicans are quietly working behind the scenes towards this goal, immigration reform still faces a big challenge in Congress. We remain hopeful that the Republican party will increase its efforts to act on this important issue before the August recess.
