Unaccompanied Migrant Children Housed in Orange County

Some migrant children have found temporary refuge with an Orange County-based child welfare agency. Due to the recent influx of unaccompanied immigrant children from Central America crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, this agency in Orange County is just one of many housing facilities across the United States.

The Cittenton Services for Children and Families, operating programs in five Southern California counties, is currently reported to be housing up to 50 juveniles at a time in Orange County. Officials offer these children education, recreation and other services while they work to identify a close relative who can assume responsibility for the children.

These children originally crossed the border in Texas and have since been transported to Ventura County where they received vaccines. The children are younger than age 12 or have medical, mental or behavioral issues or are pregnant girls.
